Foundation Registration Exam issues experienced by future pharmacy workforce
30th June 2022
The Guild of Healthcare Pharmacists (GHP) national committee were disappointed to hear about the difficulties and delays experienced by candidates in five centres in England yesterday whilst sitting the common registration exam. We agree with the RPS President’s call today (https://www.rpharms.com/about-us/news/details/foundation-registration-exam-problems-appalling-says-president) for the GPhC to publish a clear mitigation plan, as well as the need to establish a risk register for future exam sittings.
We appreciate GPhC’s candour in the face of this situation, including their swift action as well as rapid investigation into the actions of their external partner BTL Group Ltd. We hope that the results of this enquiry will serve to establish the full details of the unacceptable delays experienced by candidates at test centres so that this distressing situation is never repeated for subsequent foundation trainees. We hope that the GPhC will offer full refunds to all of the affected candidates.
The GHP NOPC offer our support to colleagues at GPhC and the BPSA in the pursuit of next steps, including the creation and publication of a mitigation plan and risk register for this never event which has undoubtedly caused huge distress to our future workforce.
We look forward to hearing from you,
Prof. Roisín O’Hare, (on behalf of the GHP National Executive Committee)
President Guild of Healthcare Pharmacists
